Estimates, how many to get, what to look for, what to ask for. Check the thoroughness of the bid, and check references. The right bid is not always the lowest, or highest bid. It's the one that will get you what you want, on time and on budget.
Permits, how do I get them?, what do they cost?, why do I need them, do I need more protection than just 'minimum code'?
Materials, suppliers, brands, costs.
